Inverted nipple correction is a surgical procedure which can correct and reshape nipples. Inverted nipples can occur naturally or happen secondary to breastfeeding, hormonal changes or prior surgeries. They can be present in one or both breasts.

What are the risks of inverted nipple correction?
As with any local anesthetic procedure, the risks of inverted nipple correction include bleeding, infection, scarring and discomfort. The risk of these occurring is very low. Risks specific to this procedure also include:
- Recurrence of inversion
- Nipple hypersensitivity
- Nipple numbness
- Potential inability to breastfeed
How long will the results of inverted nipple correction last?
Results are long-lasting and can be permanent. Changes such as pregnancy or weight gain can affect the outcome.
Inverted Nipple Correction
In virtually all cases, correction of inverted nipples can be performed under a local anesthetic through a very small, hidden incision at the base of the nipple.
Recovery from this procedure is straightforward. Significant physical activity and exercise is avoided for two weeks to allow appropriate healing. In most cases, regular activity and a return to work is possible the day after the procedure. A special padded bandage is placed over the healing nipple for three weeks to protect it from pressure.
