Liposuction with VASER and J-Plasma.

Commonly, patients will inquire about procedures to improve the appearance of lax skin (excess skin that appears loose, saggy, or hanging). While the surgical procedures that are used to excise and remove this excess skin are very effective, such as tummy tucks or arm lifts, they are also invasive and result in a significant scar. For these reasons, patients are sometimes hesitant to correct skin laxity with these procedures.

In certain scenarios, patients may instead be eligible for liposuction combined with non-surgical skin tightening adjuncts such as J-Plasma or VASER.

Liposuction is a procedure during which fat is removed by suction to restore an aesthetically pleasing contour to problem areas. It can be performed alone, or in conjunction with other treatments or surgeries to improve the final result. Because liposuction is performed in a way that results in very minimal scarring, it can be a desirable alternative to skin excision surgeries.

Who is a candidate for liposuction with VASER or J-Plasma?

Ideally these adjuncts are only appropriate for a small percentage of people, namely those “in-between” patients—those who would be at risk for lax skin if they underwent only a liposuction-based procedure, but who do not have severe enough lax skin to be an ideal candidate for excision-based procedures such as a tummy tuck. For these mild cases of skin laxity, VASER and J-Plasma can be very nice additions to help with skin tightening during liposuction.

Some other factors to assess candidacy will also come into play, including skin quality, age, and whether you smoke (because smoking can thin the skin). Keep in mind that if you have significant excess skin to the magnitude of the image below, a surgical excision will be your only option.

How do these liposuction adjuncts work?

Liposuction with J-Plasma

J-Plasma allows your surgeon to apply controlled heat to target specific areas for skin tightening. A device is placed just under the skin via a small entry point. Once it’s in place, helium gas and radiofrequency are released to create a precise stream of energy (plasma). This energy generates enough heat to contract the skin while, at the same time, excess helium gas cools the treatment area. This combination of energy contracts the tissues just under the skin, which tightens it. This procedure can be used in conjunction with liposuction in many areas; Dr. Jalil often uses it to tighten the skin of the upper arms in place of a brachioplasty.

VASER Liposuction

VASER stands for vibration amplification of sound energy at resonance, and it’s a procedure often used in what we call “Hi-Def Liposuction.” Essentially, VASER uses pulsing ultrasonic waves to generate heat that helps break apart fat cells for easier removal, while also tightening the skin in the area that’s treated. VASER allows your surgeon to be extremely precise in the way that fat is removed in order to sculpt body contours according to your goals. This option can suit patients who are seeking a very defined look that highlights underlying structures such as the abdominal muscles. In addition to this, VASER is also a key adjunct in revising previously performed liposuction where scarring can be significant. The ultrasonic waves can help break apart the scar tissue allowing the fat to be removed with less effort or danger.

How much does liposuction with J-Plasma cost?

J-Plasma is typically a $2,000 surcharge, with additional costs depending on the number of sites being treated. Liposuction costs at FORM range from $4,500-$9,500, depending on the area.

How much does VASER liposuction cost?

VASER is approximately $2,000 in addition to your liposuction costs and can vary depending on the number of sites being treated.

Both J-Plasma and VASER may require additional time in the operating room, but will not affect your overall recovery time. If you’re interested in learning more about these liposuctions adjuncts and whether you may be a good candidate, contact FORM Face + Body today.

  1. Hello, how wuch would be VASER liposuction of inner thighs? And abdomen? If it is done separately. I need to get the body definition.
    Thanks.

    1. Hi there, an estimate for these areas together would be upwards of $15,000-$17,000, depending on assessment. Ideally, these two procedures should be combined and usually are. Patients typically save about $1,000 by combining the surgeries as you would only be incurring anesthesia and facility fees once.

    1. Hi, this specific procedure ranges based on assessment, but Vaser-assisted inner thigh liposuction with J-Plasma can vary anywhere from $8,000-$11,000.
