A mini tummy tuck in Toronto, or mini abdominoplasty, is a surgical body contouring procedure that removes excess fat and skin from the stomach area. In contrast to a full abdominoplasty, a mini tummy tuck is a less invasive procedure that addresses the area of the stomach below the belly button to effectively flatten and tighten the lower stomach.
A mini tummy tuck is most effective for people in Toronto who are satisfied with their weight but who have a small amount of loose skin or excess fat in the lower abdomen that is unresponsive to diet and exercise. If you’re looking to tighten weakened and loose abdominal muscles, a full tummy tuck may be a better option for you. Because the umbilicus (belly button) can become lowered as a result of a mini tummy tuck, ideal candidates will have an umbilicus that is positioned slightly higher on the abdomen.
For a mini tummy tuck procedure in Toronto, a short horizontal incision is all that is necessary. This is often similar to the incision from a cesarian section. Liposuction may also be used in conjunction with a mini tummy tuck to remove additional abdominal fat and improve contour to the abdomen and waist area.
As with full tummy tucks, significant complications from mini tummy tucks in Toronto are infrequent. However, at FORM Face + Body, our goal is to make sure you understand what this surgery involves, including possible risks, complications, and follow-up care. Mini tummy tuck surgery poses various risks, including:
Your consultation with your surgeon is designed to maximize your outcomes and minimize complications by ensuring that the appropriate procedure is selected and that you have a full understanding of your pre and post-operative instructions. Our office is a constant resource for you in this regard and will carefully guide you through this exciting experience.
A mini tummy tuck is performed under general anesthesia and on an outpatient basis. You will need to arrange for someone to drive you home after surgery and to stay with you for at least the next day or two.
Once your surgery is complete, you will be taken into a recovery area, where you will continue to be closely monitored. Gauze or other dressings may be applied to your abdomen and covered by an elastic bandage.
Since a mini tummy tuck is less invasive than a full tummy tuck, your recovery period will be shorter, usually about 2-3 weeks. You can expect to experience some bruising, swelling and discomfort following the procedure, however, if you experience any severe pains they should be reported to our office. You will be encouraged to go for short walks to promote blood circulation the day after surgery. Try not to sit for long periods of time during the first several days, and avoid straining, bending, and lifting. Your surgeon will instruct you to sleep on your back with a pillow under your knees.
Swelling may ultimately take months to subside before you see the final results of your mini tummy tuck, and it’s important to know that although the incisions will heal and fade over time, they will be permanently visible. Fortunately they will be easy to conceal with most bathing suits and undergarments.
