What is IPL?

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) skin treatments in Toronto use the healing specific wavelengths of light to target and fade hyperpigmentation, improving the clarity, texture, and tone of your skin without invasive treatment.

IPL treatments can address areas on the face, hands, chest, and body where sun damage is common. During your consultation, your specialist will examine your areas of concern and recommend a treatment plan tailored to your needs.

Who is IPL right for?

Safe for all skin tones — our IPL technology is highly recommended for individuals in Toronto with concerns about sun damage or visible aging.

IPL can treat:

  • Discolouration
  • Visible veins
  • Wrinkles
  • Pigmentation
  • Redness
  • Uneven tone and texture
  • And more

IPL can also be effective for rosacea because it effectively targets redness.

What are the risks of IPL treatment?

IPL treatments are extremely safe when administered by qualified practitioners who take the time to analyze your skin prior to treatment.

Certain pre-existing medical conditions may prevent you from receiving treatment; this will be discussed with you during your initial consultation.

IPL results are long-lasting, but regular treatments may be recommended to maintain results.

What to Expect From IPL

Treatment

IPL treatments usually last 15-20 minutes, depending on the area being treated. During treatment, the device emits different wavelengths of pulsed light to address multiple skin concerns at once. It feels like a light snap with an elastic band against your skin as the applicator moves around the treatment area. The applicator has a built-in cooling feature to make the treatment as comfortable as possible, but you might feel a bit of discomfort if you're treating a more sensitive area, like the upper lip. Following treatment, patients often report smoother, more even skin tone, a reduction in pigmentation or scarring, and a more radiant complexion. You'll need to avoid sun exposure, retinoids, tanning cream, or tanning beds before and after your treatment.

Recovery

IPL treatments offer a quick recovery because the wavelengths emitted during your treatment can target concerns without damaging the surrounding tissue. Your skin may feel warm, like a sunburn, and can remain red for anywhere from a few hours to a day, but you should be able to return to most day-to-day activities immediately. It's especially important to wear sunscreen following your treatment and to avoid tanning, hot baths, massages, or any treatment that requires direct contact with the skin on the treated area for 48 hours.

At-Home Maintenance

When it comes to skin rejuvenation, in-office treatments are one piece of the puzzle. To achieve the best possible results, we highly recommend pairing your treatments with complementary skincare to use at home before, between, and after your treatments to boost and maintain your results.

In combination with your IPL treatments in Toronto, we recommend Skinbetter Science Even Tone Correcting Serum™, applied to the face, neck, and décolletage morning and evening after cleansing.
